21 May – 20 Jun. 2015

Jérôme Poggi is pleased to announce the first Parisian solo show in Paris by Azeri artist Babi Badalov (born 1959). A political refugee in France since 2011, Badalov is a wanderer, a forced nomad from Azerbaïjan who has spent most of his life migrating between various countries, cultures, and languages.

Exhibited worldwidely (New Museum in New-York, Manifesta 8, Plateau in Paris, MUKHA in Antwerpen, Tranzit in Prague, Garage in Moscow, etc), his paintings, drawings and collages are essentially poetical and political, mixing words, alphabets, etymologies and meanings in an ornamental way, that echoes to the chaotic melting-pot of contemporary globalization.

An interview with azeri art critic Leïla Jafarova, former assistant curator at Centre Pompidou, will be published on the occasion of the show, in preparation to a future monography to be published by the gallery about Babi Badalov.
