Anniversary of Art
On January 17, 1963, Robert Filliou solemnly declared that art was one million years old. Imagining, in a mysterious way, what the birth of art might have been, he thus defined a new calendar, neither divine nor scientific, but purely artistic. He invited us to celebrate this New Year of Art every year, in the joy and light of winter.
Around a dedicated group exhibition, held from January 13 to 24, 2026, Galerie Poggi presents its program and the major artistic events of the year, in which the gallery’s artists take part.
With Babi Badalov, Anna-Eva Bergman, Christian Bonnefoi, Larissa Fassler, Anthony Goicolea, Virginie Ittah, Nikita Kadan, Manuel Mathieu, Wesley Meuris, Vera Pagava, Štefan Papčo, Sophie Ristelhueber, Georges Tony Stoll, and Kees Visser.
Plus
” Everything began on a January 17, one million years ago.
A man took hold of a sponge and dipped it into a bucket of water.
The name of this man is not important.
He is dead, but art is alive.
There is no need for names in this story. “
— Robert Filliou, The Whispered History of Art, 1963
