Sidival Fila, Solo Show

Jérome Poggi is pleased to present the second solo exhibition devoted to the Brazilian artist Sidival Fila (1962), who lives and works in Rome. Echoing his installation at the 58th edition of the Venice Biennale, this new ensemble emphasizes more than ever his transversal position between a minimalist and abstract European tradition and the vernacular Latin American tradition where technique has an almost ritualistic role in the work’s use value.

Sidival Fila is the director of the Franciscan convent San Bonaventura al Palatino in Rome. In parallel to an international artistic career, he joined the Order of Friars Minor a few years after moving to Europe to study art in 1985.

After several important recent exhibitions at the Museo Carlo Bilotti of the Villa Borghese (2015), at the Fresnoy (2016, cur. Dominique Païni) and at the Palazzo Ducale di Sassuolo in dialogue with the Panza di Biumo collection (2017), Sidival Fila will see at the beginning of the autumn the Palazzo Merulana – Cerasi Foundation (Rome) devote a major monographic exhibition to him. In December 2019, the Poggi gallery will present a solo project for Art Basel Miami Beach.
