Štefan Papčo, Earth As Bodily Matter

On the initiative of Elena Sorokina, Galerie Poggi is pleased to present the first exhibition of Slovakian artist Štefan Papco in France, Earth as a Bodily Matter, until 12th March 2022.

As an echo to Papco’s work, the gallery invited other artists to contribute their notes on several topics : verticality and its politics, gravity and perspective, the terrestrial and the cosmic. These artists include Kapwani Kiwanga, Wesley Meuris, Sophie Ristelhueber and Yu Hsin Su as well as an interview by Julius Koller drawing on his fictional institution located between the earth and the cosmos.

Elena Sorokina is curator and art historian. She was chief curator of the High Institute of Fine Arts, Belgium, between 2017-2018. Between 2015-2017 she was curatorial advisor of documenta 14 in Athens/ Kassel. Her exhibition “Crystal Clear: Travels in Sustainable Exhibition Making” opened at Pera Museum Istanbul in December 2020. Her upcoming exhibition “Forms of Fragility” is scheduled at Rudolfinum, Prague, for October 2022. She has curated exhibitions at BOZAR and WIELS (Brussels); Centre Pompidou and Mus e d’Art Moderne (Paris); SMBA/Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and other institutions.
