As the first ever recipient of the Villa N’Zuo residency in Abidjan, a new residency program launched by the French Institute of Côte d’Ivoire, Zimbabwean artist Troy Makaza spent several months immersing himself in the cultural capital of Côte d’Ivoire. Known for blending personal experiences with socio-political commentary, Troy Makaza used this residency to take a step back from the intensity of his usual practice, explore new materials, and engage with the city’s vibrant nightlife and artistic networks.
